Biogas potential of organic waste onboard cruise ships — a yet untapped energy source

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract To tap the organic waste generated onboard cruise ships is a very promising approach to reduce their adverse impact on maritime environment. Biogas produced by means of anaerobic digestion offers complementary energy source for ships’ operation. This report comprises detailed presentation results gained from comprehensive investigations gas yield substrates such as food waste, sewage sludge and screening solids. Each person generates total average about 9 kg per day. The performed analyses tests revealed an accumulated methane around 159 L co-digestion (50:50 VS) emerged particularly effective led increased biogas 24%, compared mono-fermentation. In best case, production can provide energetic output 82 W/P, covering 3.3 4.1% demand ship.

Worry and its correlates onboard cruise ships.

The present study examined job-specific worry, as well as possible predictors of such worry, namely job-specific self-efficacy and supervisor dispositionism. 133 non-supervising crew members at different departments onboard upmarket cruise ships filled in a questionnaire during one of their journeys. Findings show that employees report moderate amounts of job-specific worry and the galley crew ...

Potential of Livestock Generated Biomass: Untapped Energy Source in India

Modern economies run on the backbone of electricity as one of major factors behind industrial development. India is endowed with plenty of natural resources and the majority of electricity within the country is generated from thermal and hydro-electric plants. A few nuclear plants assist in meeting the national requirements for electricity but still many rural areas remain uncovered. As India i...

Utilization of Co-digestion of Local Brewery Wastes and Cattle Dung as a Potential Source of Biogas and Organic Fertilizer

Biogas production from co-digestion of local brewery waste (BW) and cow dung (CD) was study for value added to this solid waste. The objective of this research was to fine the optimum condition for maximum biogas production and also examined the effectiveness of the biogas residue (liquor from anaerobic digestion process) as a nitrogen source for the production of okro. The experiments were per...

Norovirus challenges aboard cruise ships.

Being in a ship is like being in jail, with the chance of being drowned (Dr. Samuel Johnson) Gastroenteritis is a major health concern aboard cruise ships [1]. Poor sanitation systems and contaminated water and food used to get the blame. As the North American market covers 2/3 of the global cruise volume [2], the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were particularly intereste...

Anaerobic Treatment and Biogas Production from Organic Waste

Organic wastes under consideration are of natural origin that possess biochemical characteristics ensuring rapid microbial decomposition at relatively normal operating conditions. When considering the organic waste treatment we have generally in mind organic mineralization, biological stabilisation and detoxification of pollutants. Most common organic wastes contain compounds that are mainly we...
